Deborah (Deb) Lin Smith died on December 15, 2021 at the age of 55 after a battle with cancer.
Deb was born to Ronald and Karin Smith in Seattle, and soon after the family moved to Billings, Montana. Deb attended Boulder Elementary, Will James Junior High, and Billings West High School, graduating in 1984. She was always an excellent student and attended the University of California, San Diego, where she graduated. studied molecular biology. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology in 1988.
After graduating, she moved to Seattle, where she lived for the rest of her life. Her first job there was at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and later she worked as a laboratory scientist at Zymogenetics.
A blind date led her to meet Mark Anderson, and they fell in love. They tied the knot on July 13, 1996, on a record-breaking hot summer day, and later put down roots in West Seattle. Their 25th wedding anniversary was celebrated last July. The greatest joys of her life were her two daughters: Hanna, now in her final year at Tufts University, and Keira, in her final year in high school.
Deb has always been a sports enthusiast, playing varsity volleyball in high school and on intramural teams. She was a loyal fan of the Sounders, Storm and University of Washington Huskies. She was an excellent cook and baker and loved exploring new tastes and flavors. She has always had a love for animals, especially dogs, and her yellow Labrador Bailey will be dearly missed.
She has been involved in many volunteer activities, including the YMCA, the Red Cross, voter registration, and the Swedish Hospital as a newborn cuddler. She also spent much of her time as the girls grew up attending their many concerts and sporting events, including soccer, volleyball, basketball, and crew.
Personal relationships have always been very important to Deb, and she nurtured and cherished them throughout her life. She had a large number of friends whom she met in high school and college and later through her participation in tennis, her gym and of course the many friends she met while participating. to the activities of his daughters.
She is predeceased by her grandparents and is survived by her husband Mark, her daughters Hanna and Keira, her parents Ron and Karin Smith, her brother Len Smith (Maura), her sister Erika Smith, her parents-in-law Anne and Warren Anderson, her sister-in-law Kristi Anderson and her many nieces and nephews.
