The St. James’ Park crowd enjoyed another excellent performance from Newcastle United on Saturday. The 1-0 win over Chelsea pushed Newcastle back to third place in the Premier League after briefly falling under Tottenham.
The game was a tactical stalemate in the first half with few chances. The guys came out of the break with renewed vigor and found their attacking talent with great moves to create decent chances.
The breakthrough came in the 67th minute through Joe Willock’s right foot. The midfielder latched onto Miguel Almiron’s heavy touch to guide the ball into the net for the ultimate game winner.
For his exploits on Saturday, Joe edged out Kieran Trippier as man of the match. It was an extremely close battle with Willock edging the England right-back by a few votes. The excellent Sven Botman comes third.
Willock has regained his scoring touch in back-to-back league matches. The box-to-box dynamo improved dramatically under the tutelage of Eddie Howe. He and Sean Longstaff have really shone in midfield for Newcastle this season.
