Take it easy: some ground rules for this blog
When I first returned to Patheos in November 2020, I wrote an article about who I am and what you’ll want to keep in mind as you read. In this entry, I’ve laid out 10 things, ground rules if you will, that you’ll want to know before investing anytime here. They were the following:
- i am sarcastic
- I have a good sense of humor
- I was evangelical
- I look heretical
- I have loose beliefs
- I love jesus
- i will make mistakes
- i am inclusive
- I am a political amphibian
- I am sensitive
Based on some of the recent comments from some of you, I need to revisit some of these points. Because my oh my are some of you angry, annoyed and downright miserable.
Just last week, I was called a liar, a heretic, and told I was destined for hell (because I don’t believe it). And look, I can take care of it. Although I may be a sensitive guy, I have thicker skin than a bayou alligator. I just ban, delete and move on.
Having said that, I love when people comment. Heck, I even like it when people disagree. But there is a way to disagree and a way not to disagree on this page. Here’s something to keep in mind:
- Keep it short and sweet. I don’t have time to read your thesis in the comments section.
- Stay focused. If you have a problem with something I said, resolve it and stay on topic.
- Refrain from ad hominem.
If you can’t do these things, there is an option for you: move on. Honestly, you don’t have to waste all the bloggers writing something that you don’t agree with. I don’t want an echo chamber, but at the same time I don’t want to face a constant barrage of people who think that just because I don’t assert this or that doctrine that I will spend eternity on. to twist me in the flames of their god’s wrath.
I have the impression that these are reasonable requests. Get involved, but don’t be an asshole. Disengage if you feel your blood pressure is rising while you are reading. If you really have a problem with me, maybe start your own WordPress blog. Or share my stuff on your social media accounts and tell the world (all your 17 followers) how much you hate me (true story, it happened yesterday).
Honestly, it’s not that hard to treat a stranger like me with some respect. I know I know, you have to earn respect to be respectedt. But I don’t think that’s a universal claim. We are strangers. I do not know you. You do not know me. So there should be a certain level of respect among strangers. I’m not going to go to your blog, YouTube channel, or Twitter account and tell your followers how much I hate you and why. So please don’t think it’s just because I’m the smallest public figure that I can do this to myself.
Stop taking yourself seriously.
And if you can’t do these things, you will be banned. It really is that simple.
If you want to know me better, do not hesitate to follow me on social networks. I am quite active on all platforms:
