Chicago, IL – March 9, 2022 – Zacks.com announces the list of stocks featured in the analyst blog. Every day, Zacks Equity Research analysts discuss the latest news and events impacting stocks and financial markets. Stocks recently featured in the blog include: Baker Hughes Company BKR, Whiting Petroleum Corp. WLL and Continental Resources, Inc. CLR.

Here are the highlights from Tuesday’s analyst blog:

The number of Permian oil platforms increases for 6 consecutive weeks

In its weekly publication, Baker Hughes Company reported that the US rig count was in line with the previous week’s count. The number of rotating platforms, published by Baker Hughes, is usually published in leading newspapers and trade publications.

Baker Hughes data, released at the end of each week since 1944, helps energy service providers assess the overall business environment for the oil and gas industry. The number of active rigs and how it compares to the previous week’s figure indicates the trajectory of demand for Baker Hughes oilfield services from exploration and production companies.

Details

Total US flatbed rigs: The number of rigs engaged in oil and natural gas exploration and production in the United States was 650 for the week through March 4, consistent with the tally from the previous week. Thus, the count has increased in eight of the previous nine weeks. The current number of national platforms is higher than the level of 403 a year ago.

The number of land rigs for the week ended March 4 totaled 635, consistent with the previous week’s tally. In offshore resources, 12 rigs were operating, flat with the previous week’s tally.

The number of American oil rigs is decreasing: The number of oil rigs was 519 for the week ended March 4, down from 522 the previous week. figure of 310.

The number of natural gas platforms is increasing in the United States: The natural gas rig count of 130 was higher than the previous week’s count of 127. The number of rigs exploring the product is also higher than the previous week’s tally of 92. According to the latest report, the number natural gas rigs is 91.9% lower than the historic high of 1,606 recorded in 2008.

Number of platforms per type: The number of vertical rigs stood at 25 units, down from 26 the previous week. 625, however, compares favorably to the 624 level from the previous week.

Gulf of Mexico (GoM) Rig Count Flat: The number of GoM platforms was 12 units, all directed to oil. The count was consistent with the number from the previous week.

Number of rigs in the most prolific pool

The Permian – the most prolific basin in the United States – recorded a weekly oil rig count of 310, higher than the previous week’s count of 309. As a result, the number of oil rigs in the basin increased for six consecutive weeks.

Outlook

The price of West Texas Intermediate crude is trading above $120 a barrel, marking a massive improvement over the past year. The price of the commodity rose mainly with the escalation of Russian attacks on Ukraine. Rising oil prices will pave the way for rig additions despite a slowdown in drilling activity as upstream players focus primarily on shareholder returns rather than increased production.

Meanwhile, investors can keep a close eye on energy stocks such as Whiting Petroleum Corp. and Continental Resources, Inc.. Companies should benefit from the current scenario of healthy oil prices.

Whiting Petroleum is one of North Dakota’s leading upstream energy companies and crude oil producer. With oil prices improving at a blistering pace, Whiting Petroleum should continue to generate healthy cash flow while maintaining a healthy balance sheet.

Denver, CO-based Whiting Petroleum has witnessed upward revisions to 2022 earnings estimates over the past 30 days. Looking at the price chart, WLL has gained 149% over the past year, outpacing the 75.1% improvement in industry-owned composite stocks. WLL currently wears a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy). You can see the full list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.

Continental Resources is also a leading upstream energy company with proven reserves in North Dakota and Oklahoma. Continental Resources’ oil stocks are among the best in the industry.

Oklahoma City-based Continental Resources has seen upward revisions to 2022 earnings estimates over the past 60 days. Looking at the price chart, Continental Resources, carrying a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold), has gained 103.2% over the past year, outpacing the 75.1% improvement in industry-owned composite stocks.

From thousands of stocks, 5 Zacks experts have each picked their favorite to skyrocket by +100% or more in the coming months. Of these 5, Research Director Sheraz Mian selects one to have the most explosive advantage of all.

Chicago, IL – February 24, 2022 – Zacks.com announces the list of stocks featured in the analyst blog. Every day, Zacks Equity Research analysts discuss the latest news and events impacting stocks and financial markets. Stocks recently featured in the blog include: Pool Corp. POOL, Brunswick Corp. BC, OneWater Marine, Inc. ONEW and MasterCraft Boat Holdings, Inc. MCFT.

Here are highlights from Wednesday’s analyst blog:

Test the Leisure and Hobby Waters with These 4 Stocks

Expectations for 2022 can be described as “mixed” at this time.

COVID continues to rise and fall, and new iterations of the virus can still upend plans. But growing immunity (through vaccination or infection) increases confidence in herd immunity to come sooner rather than later. So people are generally taking COVID in stride now. And that means they want more normalcy in their activities. Which is good for spending.

The only thing that can stop them is ever-increasing inflation which increases the cost of routine things like food and fuel.

Speaking of fuel, oil was short anyway and the Russian-Ukrainian situation may make matters worse. Prices should therefore remain high for some time now.

Automatic inventory issues may subside, but there still seems to be greater demand for the used category. Prices need to fall for this situation to change.

The supply chain is taking its time to recover.

The shortage of semiconductors persists, but the availability of key chips is increasing.

The Fed is heading for 6 to 7 rate hikes this year, which can only be bad news for the stock market. But the fear of hanging on led investors to sell off many stocks, leading to a major correction at the start of the year itself. As a result, many sectors are now trading below their intrinsic value.

Given all of the above and the fact that the economy remains so strong, it’s not a bad idea to bet on some consumer-facing stocks. Something like hobbies for example.

Stocks like Pool Corp., Brunswick Corp., OneWater Marine, Inc. and MasterCraft Boat Holdings, Inc. have seen their prices fall by 24.3%, 6.5%, 4.7% and 3.0% respectively over the past three months and are currently trading at reasonable to cheap valuations.

With boating season approaching and investors still largely focused on other things, now may be a good time to buy these hobby and leisure stocks (29% of Zacks-ranked industries, where the upper half exceeds the lower half by a factor of 2 to 1). The industry lost over 22% of its value in 2022 and is currently undervalued.

But as the season gets closer, those stocks are very likely to increase. Especially since their estimates have increased. For the current year,

Pool Corp’s revenue and profit are expected to rise 9.9% and 11.7% respectively, with further growth forecast for the following year. Over the past 30 days, the Zacks consensus estimate for Pool Corporation stock has risen 50 cents (3.0%). There is a regular history of exceeding estimates.

Brunswick’s revenue and profit are expected to increase 17.4% and 22.0%, respectively. Over the past 30 days, Brunswick Corporation’s earnings estimates for 2022 have risen 89 cents (9.7%). It has exceeded estimates in each of the past four quarters.

OneWater Marine revenue and profit are expected to increase by 37.9% and 19.5% respectively (year ending September). Current-year estimates are up 49 cents (6.3%) over the past 30 days. OneWater Marine’s average earnings surprise over the past four quarters is 59.0%.

MasterCraft’s revenue and profit are expected to grow 24.5% and 29.0%, respectively (year ending June). Current growth forecasts for the following year are 9.4% for revenues and 15.5% for profits. MasterCraft’s estimates for 2022 and 2023 are up: 20 cents (4.9%) and 36 cents (7.9%), respectively. It has exceeded estimates in each of the last four quarters at an average rate of 24.9%.

OneWater Marine has a Zacks #1 rank (Strong Buy) while Pool Corp., Brunswick Corp. and MasterCraft have Zacks rank #2 (buy).

Just Released: Zacks’ 7 Best Stocks For Today

Experts have pulled 7 stocks from the Zacks #1 220 Strong Buys list that have beaten the market more than 2 times with an astonishing average gain of +25.4% per year.

“Determined to get back on my feet and back on track, I challenged myself to write a short story book, completed in December 2020 during lockdown.

“I could not have recovered the way I did without the care, patience and love of my wife. My book is dedicated to him.

Chicago, IL – February 17, 2022 – Zacks.com announces the list of stocks featured in the analyst blog. Every day, Zacks Equity Research analysts discuss the latest news and events impacting stocks and financial markets. Stocks recently featured in the blog include: Tapestry, Inc. TPR, Capri Holdings CPRI, DICK’S Sporting Goods DKS and Signet Jewelers Ltd. GIS.

Here are highlights from Wednesday’s analyst blog:

4 solid stocks to buy when retail sales rebound

Retail sales have slowed somewhat in recent months. Moreover, the last holiday season was not so impressive, which hit the retailers even more. However, the scene seems to have changed with the turn of the year. According to the Mastercard SpendingPulse, retail sales rebounded in January, driven by strong online sales.

E-commerce has played an important role in boosting retail sales since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and January was no different. So, retail stocks with a strong online presence like Tapestry, Inc.,Capri Holdings,DICK’S Sporting Goods and Signet Jewelers Ltd. are likely to benefit from it in the short term.

Retail sales up in January

According to the latest Mastercard SpendingPulse report, non-auto retail sales jumped an impressive 7.2% in January on a year-over-year basis. Interestingly, the jump in retail sales in January comes despite growing fears of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus and rising consumer prices.

According to a Commerce Department report released last week, the consumer price index hit a 40-year high in January. Inflation has been a worrying factor, but it doesn’t seem to have had much of an impact on consumer spending habits. One of the major reasons behind this is the growth in consumer income, which has given people the extra purchasing power.

According to the report, retail sales rose across all segments, driven by a solid increase in apparel sales. Apparel sales rose 37.6% year-over-year in January to post their strongest January growth in Mastercard SpendingPulse history.

People have been shopping for clothes since COVID-induced restrictions began to ease and travel and vacation planning resumed. Additionally, sales of luxury goods jumped 45.3% year-over-year in January. Jewelery sales increased by 19.8%.

E-commerce drives retail sales

E-commerce has been playing a major role in driving retail sales growth for almost two years now. During the pandemic, millions of people turned to e-commerce to buy goods and it has since become a habit. Despite millions of Americans now being fully vaccinated and restrictions on masks being quickly lifted as the economy reopens, fears of the coronavirus are far from over.

So people are still comfortable shopping online. According to the Mastercard SpendingPulse report, online sales increased 10.4% in January on a year-over-year basis.

Additionally, the traditional tendency to spend more on services than goods has changed during the pandemic. The trend seems to be reversing once again as people have started to spend more on services. This saw restaurant sales rise 36.7% year-on-year in January and 16.6% from pre-pandemic levels.

Also, as people return to work, they can expect to earn more. Household savings reached a record level in 2021. As a result, retail sales should experience a further boost in the coming months.

Our choices

Online shopping will continue to be a safe bet for millions of people. So this is the right opportunity to invest in retail stocks that have a strong online presence.

Each of the stocks sports a Zacks rank #1 (strong buy) or a Zacks rank #2 (buy). You can see the full list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank stocks here.

A St. Patrick’s Day parade bit the dust after comeback plans for this year fell through. Citing supplier expenses, the Cottleville Shamrock Parade scheduled for March 12 will not go ahead, but the accompanying race will.

Cottleville Firefighters Outreach, the organization in charge of the parade, released a statement on Facebook explaining the cancellation.

“Revenue generated from the parade cannot support current costs,” the statement said. “Our efforts to find additional funding or less expensive alternatives have been unsuccessful.”

The decision was made unanimously by the board of directors and they added in their statement that they were deeply disappointed not to be able to participate in the parade. In response to comments calling for a fundraising campaign to save the parade, the non-profit organization replied that it does not fit with its mission to raise funds for a parade when its current efforts go to programs such as children’s coats, providing free smoke detectors and crisis assistance. .

The organization is currently working on refunds for floating entries and sponsorships.

Cottleville was one of three parades scheduled for St. Patrick’s Day this year. Dogtown and Downtown are still planning to hold their parades.

Chicago, IL – January 26, 2022 – Zacks.com announces the list of stocks featured in the analyst blog. Every day, Zacks Equity Research analysts discuss the latest news and events impacting stocks and financial markets. Stocks recently featured in the blog include: Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. VRTX, Marten Transport MRTN, Nucor NUE, Seagate Technology STX and Sanderson Farms SAFM.

Here are the highlights from Tuesday’s analyst blog:

5 Buy-Ranked Stocks Likely to Beat Earnings This Week

Earnings season is closely watched on Wall Street because that’s when investors have access to management input, helping them decide which stocks to buy and which to sell. This is to project the future performance of the company in the context of its most recent quarterly performance.

And it’s not just about performance either. Management’s comments also include their analysis of what happened during the quarter. So, for example, lower than expected orders would be negative on the face of it, but management might give us reasons such as orders pushed back to the next quarter rather than cancellations, which wouldn’t necessarily be as negative. Likewise, higher-than-expected orders may not be as significant as they seem, as there may have been pullbacks starting in the next quarter.

Today, most investors worry about the impact of supply chain and labor issues, which inflate costs and affect margins. Firms have varying degrees of pricing power to pass it on to customers. They can therefore be impacted to varying degrees. Management’s comments will help us understand how the situation is developing for each company and the outlook will give us an idea of what the immediate future holds.

In normal situations, there is a direct reaction to this news in the form of stock price movements. Thus, prices could rise when things look good for the company and go in the opposite direction when there are negative surprises or other disappointing factors. But the resurgence of the virus and the Fed’s decision to raise interest rates are also important considerations in this earnings season. There is therefore not always a positive correlation between results and prices.

This makes predicting an outcome a little less fruitful because there are fewer opportunities to discover information. The Zacks Earnings Surprise Prediction (ESP), in combination with the Zacks Ranking, does the job regardless. And here are some examples you might want to take a look at-

Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc.

Vertex Pharmaceuticals discovers, develops and commercializes small molecule drugs targeting serious diseases with a particular focus on cystic fibrosis (CF).

Vertex’s No. 2 ranking (buy) and ESP earnings of 4.98% indicate an earnings overrun when the company releases its report on Jan. 26. Historically, there appears to have been little correlation between earnings results and stock prices, although its value and growth scores of Bs make it a relatively safe name for investment.

marten transport

Marten Transport offers truck, dedicated and intermodal trucking services with a focus on the distribution of food and other consumer packaged goods that require a temperature controlled or insulated environment.

Marten Transport’s No. 2 ranking along with its ESP earnings of 1.89% indicate it will beat earnings when it reports after the bell today. But if you were hoping to pick up the stock on the chance that there was a positive reaction, you better keep in mind that he almost never reacted positively to positive surprises. On the other hand, since it also got an A for value and growth, it seems like a relatively safe bet right now.

Nucor

Nucor is a leading producer of various forms of structural steel, sheet steel, beams, bars, joists and other steel products.

Nucor shares carry a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), which together with ESP earnings of 0.0% indicates the company will post a positive surprise when it reports on Jan. 27. In 2021, stocks reacted to earnings news although there was more negative reaction to misfires than positive reaction to beats. But since it got a B for growth and value, it looks like a relatively safe game.

Seagate Technology

Seagate, the second largest manufacturer of hard disk drives (HDDs) in the United States, also develops other electronic data storage products such as solid-state drives (SSDs) and hybrid solid-state drives (SSHDs). ).

Given that Seagate shares carry a Zacks Rank No. 2 and its ESP earnings are 0.0%, the company has a reasonable chance of beating estimates when it reports Jan. 26. Seagate has a relatively strong history of posting positive surprises, but the reaction to those surprises has been a bit erratic. But given its value score of B and growth score of A, Seagate seems like a relatively safe stock to invest in.

Sanderson Farms

Poultry processing company Sanderson Farms produces and distributes fresh, frozen and minimally prepared chicken products, which are then sold to retailers, distributors, casual dining operators and frozen chicken stockists for export.

Sanderson Farms’ Zacks #1 ranking and 0.0% PSE point to an earnings overshoot when the company reports Jan. 27. In 2021, investors barely responded to its huge positive surprises, so let’s see what they do this year. It should be noted, however, that shares of Sanderson Farms are relatively safe as they have an A rating for value and growth.

The infrastructure stock boom will sweep America

A massive push to rebuild America’s crumbling infrastructure will soon be underway. It is bipartisan, urgent and inevitable. Billions will be spent. Fortunes will be made.

The only question is “Are you going to get into good stocks early when their growth potential is greatest?”

Zacks released a special report to help you do just that, and today it’s free. Discover 5 special companies looking to make the most of building and repairing roads, bridges and buildings, as well as transporting goods and transforming energy on an almost unimaginable scale.

Zacks names ‘only one best choice for doubling up’

From thousands of stocks, 5 Zacks experts have each picked their favorite to skyrocket by +100% or more in the coming months. Of these 5, Research Director Sheraz Mian selects one to have the most explosive advantage of all.

As one investor put it, “curing and preventing hundreds of diseases…what should this market be worth?” This company could rival or surpass other recent Zacks stocks that are expected to double, such as Boston Beer Company which jumped +143.0% in just over 9 months and NVIDIA which jumped +175.9% in a year.

  • Kenneth Gregory, left, will be the new police chief.

St. Louis County has a new police chief: Lt. Col. Kenneth Gregory.

In a press release, the St. Louis County Police Department announced the news that the Board of Police Commissioners had selected Gregory as the tenth chief to lead the department. He is the first black police chief in the department’s 66 years of operation. Gregory has served as Acting Chief of Police since Mary Barton left the department on July 30, 2021.

Gregory, who has served as interim chief for the past six months, has worked collaboratively with the board “both on day-to-day operational matters and long-term strategic decisions,” the commission said in a statement. press release announcing the selection. The council said its members were impressed with the acting chief’s decision-making process, community engagement, collaborative leadership style and his ability to turn departmental issues into “concrete action items”.

The board has confidence in Gregory’s “abilities to work collaboratively, to strive for self-improvement, and to protect the Department’s successes and achievements,” according to his statement.

“Although we tasked him with stabilizing the organization, the Department has not only stabilized but developed in a positive direction under his command,” the press release reads. “As such, the board has determined that it is in the best interests of the department and the community of St. Louis to place Chief Gregory at the helm.”

St. Louis County Executive Sam Page praised Gregory on Twitter. The Ethical Society of Police, which had publicly criticized Barton’s leadership before his resignation, said Tuesday that Gregory “brings an abundance of institutional knowledge to the position.”

“We look forward to working collaboratively to dismantle many practices and policies that have created barriers to employment for minorities and damaged relationships within marginalized communities,” the Ethical Society statement read.

The St. Louis County Police Department revealed on Twitter that the person who hired Gregory, Col. Gil Kleinknecht, “got to watch Gregory take his old job.”

Gregory has been with the police department since 1979 in various roles, with his most recent post as deputy chief in 2018. In 2020, Gregory was beaten by Barton in the race for chief of police following the retirement of Colonel Jon Belmar. Gregory served under Barton, the first female police chief, until his release; Barton served as chief for fifteen months, but resigned after allegations of racism, then accused the county of discrimination itself. The complaint was settled out of court, reaching a settlement of $290,000.

Gregory was also lightly involved in a 2017 lawsuit against the St. Louis County Police Department, where an officer, Sergeant Keith Wildhaber, said he was blocked from promotions because he was gay. The lawsuit contained the account of a former executive assistant, who claimed to have heard Gregory quote the Bible to another commander, calling homosexuality an “abomination”.

In his testimony, Gregory denied this claim and said he never quoted the Bible during his service. The jury determined that they did not believe then-Chief Belmar or senior police officials when they insisted there was no homophobia in the department and awarded Wildhaber nearly $20 million. Page also announced that he would be hiring new members of the Board of Commissioners. Therefore.

Gregory now takes the reins of the second largest police force in the St. Louis area. On Tuesday, the Board of Commissioners ended its statement by saying it looked forward to working with the new police chief to continue “steering the department toward 21st century policing.”

“Regional and departmental safety is of the utmost importance to this council, along with efforts to cultivate inclusivity and collaboration within our community,” the statement read. “Chief Gregory, the Board, and the Department will continue to put the residents of St. Louis County and the St. Louis area and their well-being first.”
