FRISCO, Texas – The cranes a few miles north of Toyota Stadium mean golf for future waves of North Dakota state fans, if the Bison have the chance to advance to further national championship games.

This is not entirely true. In fact, the cranes mean a luxury resort and the headquarters of the PGA of America is under construction just west of the Dallas North Tollway which passes the site of Saturday’s football championship subdivision between the Bison and the State of Montana.

The resort and headquarters will be part of a 2,500 acre development called the Omni PGA Frisco Resort which will feature two 18-hole championship golf courses, a 10-hole short course, a 30-acre practice area and a Lighted putting course that covers a breathtaking 75,000 square feet.

Next to the golf / resort complex grow two huge developments called Fields and The Link that will fill the vast open spaces of northern Frisco with more accommodation, restaurants and retail stores.

For those NDSU fans who have migrated to North Texas for the FCS title game and who are used to seeing the boom in one of America’s fastest growing cities, the construction of the PGA HQ of America and the Omni Complex will offer this year’s “holy cow” moment.

It seems like an annual thing as this is the Bison’s ninth trip to the Championship game in the past 11 seasons. NDSU fans who do the trek saw Frisco grow up.

“It’s quite a project,” said Marla Roe, Executive Director of Visit Frisco. “We invite fans to come and take a look. When this is over, it will be another destination like The Star.”

Roe was referring to the Dallas Cowboys headquarters and training center, a 91-acre development about four miles south of Toyota Stadium along the Dallas North toll freeway that has become a must-see for visitors to. Frisco.

The development of the golf course is still over a year after being completed. The golf courses are built and appear ready to play, but are not expected to open until May 2023 in conjunction with the resort. The PGA of America, the organizing body of approximately 29,000 club professionals, is moving its headquarters from Florida to Frisco and its building will open in April.

As with so many other projects that Bison fans have seen sprout from Texas soil since the first NDSU title game in January 2012, Frisco has made this one big.

It is an estimated $ 520 million public-private partnership between the developers, the PGA of America, the City of Frisco and the Frisco Independent School District.

“It’s set up in a similar fashion to other sports projects here,” Roe said. “The Ford Center where the Cowboys train, Toyota Stadium. It’s public-private partnerships like this.”

The golf courses and practice areas will be owned by the city of Frisco, managed by the PGA and open to the public. Frisco student golfers will be able to practice on the courses every week.

A feasibility study of the PGA of America’s move to Frisco, along with the adjacent mixed-use development, estimated the economic impact to be $ 2.5 billion over the next 20 years.

Five major championships are already scheduled on the courses: the PGA Championship in 2027 and 2034, the PGA Women’s Championship in 2025 and 2031 and the PGA Senior Championship in 2023.

The PGA of America has also raised the possibility of a Ryder Cup in Frisco.

The 18-hole courses were designed by famous architects Beau Welling (West Course) and Gil Hanse (East Course). The short 10-hole course is called The Swing and the huge putting course is called Dance Floor.

The Omni project will include 500 bedrooms and seven four-bedroom golf villas. The hotel will feature approximately a dozen restaurants and grocery stores, three swimming pools, 127,000 square feet of meeting / event space, and a destination spa.

“It’s a destination that people will want to see,” said Roe.

While the resort and golf courses won’t be open for more than a year, Roe and her tourism colleague Millerann Moya from neighboring Plano have sent in a list of new restaurants and businesses for Bison and Montana fans to check out. State.
