BLOG: Make up your mind to read the Bible

As the New Year approaches, countless people already have a list of resolutions for 2022, hoping to get better. I would say that any list of resolutions should include “Read the Bible daily,” ideally with the completion of the entire Bible in one year.

There is no direct command in the Bible itself, to my knowledge, to read the Bible in a year. At the same time, the Bible has a lot to say about the power of the Word of God in a person’s life, and there are countless benefits to doing so.

• The Word of God is called “lamp at my feet(Psalm 119: 105).
• The Word of God protects us from sin and failure in our lives (Psalm 119: 11).
• The scriptures are “Inspired by God“and also useful”teach, reprimand, correct and train for justice(2 Tim. 3:16).

The Bible also describes the Scriptures as a sword and as a shield, that is, literally the Word of God expired by the Holy Spirit. Engaging in daily Bible reading must therefore be a priority for Christian believers.

Now, you have to admit that reading the Bible daily can be difficult, as other daily habits choke time in the Word.

To counter this, I would suggest a few things. First, set a time of day when you are going to read the Word of God. Then try to replace a bad habit or neutral habit with that good habit.

Do you have an entertainment-based TV show or bedtime routine? Is there a time in your morning when you could set aside even three minutes for this? Remember to read the Bible before looking at your smartphone in the morning. For 2022, take the time to review and fit into your daily schedule. Finally, ask someone you trust to hold you accountable.

Diet, more exercise, better effort at work, volunteering, managing money more wisely, working for better relationships, spending less time in front of screens. All of these resolutions are noble. Whatever it is on your list (or if you don’t have a list), make God’s Word a bigger part of your daily life in 2022 and beyond.

“The purpose of a new year is not that we have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, new spine, new ears and new eyes. Unless one particular man made New Year’s resolutions, he wouldn’t be making any resolutions. Unless a man starts over from scratch, he sure won’t do anything effective.
